How we got here
Established in 2021, this project started as a side hustle during the pandemic; something to stay busy and learn the ropes of ecommerce. It began as a t-shirt business selling custom designs on Etsy and grew to an in-house production making a variety of merchandise for small and local performing artists.
In 2025 after a trip overseas, I began liquidating some of my record collection I had amassed over the last 15+ years in an effort to free up space. It was a profoundly successful endeavor, and in fall of 2025, sold the in-house printing equipment to focus strictly on buying and reselling records.
Until April, 2026, we had only sold records on ebay.
Why music?
Music is a substantial part of almost everyone's life. Everybody has a favorite band, a favorite song, a good memory attached to a song, a bad memory attached to a song. It's evocative. I started collecting vinyl in the late 2000's while playing in a metal band in Indianapolis. Every record I'd ever bought had a story. Each one was a tangible reminder of a place I'd been, someone I'd gone with, a friend I'd made or a good time I'd had. Sometimes I'd buy one without knowing the artist, and I discovered a lot of the music I now love that way. I also found some music I didn't like, and picked up a lot of familiar favorites.
It seemed like a special thing to share.
A method to the madness
It took over 15 years to amass a robust and eclectic collection of records. It only took a few months to sell most of them. A lot of the joy comes in the thrill of the hunt in finding a good deal or an awesome find in a bin or big collection. We've found a lot of really cool stuff along the way and built some good routines for finding, photographing, and listing. Our operation is not a massive scale enterprise, but we post new items for sale almost daily, and will absolutely work to find something special if you've been looking for a while.
My ambition is to make browsing tracknasty.com feel like rifling through the bins at your favorite record store.
